Newable Ventures Commitment to the Investing in Women’s Code
In August 2020, Newable Ventures were proud to sign the Investing in Women Code, signifying our commitment to support the advancement of female entrepreneurship in the United Kingdom by improving women founders’ access to tools, resources and finance from the financial services sector.
Working with other organisations has also been a core component of Newable Ventures’s work on female entrepreneurship – such as our partnership with Beauhurst to report on this topic but also on women investors.
Avantika Gupta, Newable Ventures Associate Investment Director and designated leader to support the Investing in Women’s Code has played a vital role in supporting female entrepreneurship by capturing data on a range of related topics including, but not limited to;
- Percentage of fund deal flow from female founders.
- Success rate of female founders’ investment applications.
- Amount of funding requested and, where applicable, amount of funding received.
This data collection is now – and will remain – a central piece of Newable Ventures investment process.
At group level, Newable has also been playing its part in supporting female entrepreneurship over the past 12 months through a number of programmes:
Working with female entrepreneurs through Innovate UK’s EDGE publicly-funded service available to high potential innovative SMEs, offering bespoke support in areas like:
- Enabling business innovation.
- Sourcing funding and finance.
- Opening new markets.
Offering female-led businesses access to exciting Innovate UK-funded initiatives like Pitchfest and the Global Business Innovation Programme to explore innovation opportunities outside the UK. Newable has committed in 2022 through the Global Business Innovation Programme to lead an Agritech visit to the Netherlands which will be open for female-led businesses only.
Supporting Innovate UK on their Diversity & Inclusion programmes such as
Women in Innovation, offering bespoke innovation and growth support to 10 of their current 40 Women in Innovation Award holders.
Partnering with J.P. Morgan on an Inclusive Supply Chain project to connect women-owned businesses from underserved backgrounds in London to procurement opportunities. Furthermore, Newable contributed our expertise and experience to J.P. Morgan’s latest report “Top 200 Female-Powered Businesses” (April 2021).
Raising awareness of support available to female entrepreneurs by speaking at virtual events for female founders, organised by the likes of the Greater London Authority, Funding London, The Department of International Trade and the Global Entrepreneur Programme Female Founder network.
