PlanetWatchers
PlanetWatchers is a scalable analytics platform utilising AI and machine learning to automate and analyse data capture from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) to provide proprietary insights into the crop insurance space.
Synthetic Aperture Radar is a form of radar that is used to create two dimensional images or three-dimensional reconstructions of objects such as landscapes, using the motion of a radar antenna over a target region to provide finer spatial resolution than conventional beam scanning radars, creating a ‘synthetic aperture’.
Captured in the form of raw signals and numeric data, PlanetWatchers uses advanced machine learning and the full spectrum of commercial SAR data to provide key insights (over and above optical imagery) to support crop insurers in reporting planting dates, acreage, and crop classification efficiently and at scale. The usual manual crop loss adjusting process following an insurable incident or disaster would take an average of four months. PlanetWatchers’ solution is able to accurately predict perceived crop yield (or losses) in under an hour at a fraction of the cost.
